So what might someone visiting my about page want to know?
Can I trust him? Will he understand my concerns, needs and wants? Can he really help me? Will he get the job done right - the first time? Heck, do I even like him?
Here are some thoughts to answer these questions:
I am the person you want around when you need someone to ask detailed questions to ensure that nothing is overlooked. In short, I go down the rabbit holes - constantly, as if by habit.
I think you might agree this ability is key to improve a company's efficiency.
For some background, my brother is a very focused person when he puts his mind to something. When I grew up, I would annoy the heck out of him when I asked him to fix something, often something I broke. I would hit him with questions to understand the how and why around what he was doing. He was such a focused person that he didn't even hear me the first few times. He was also interested in fixing the problem so he could get back to what he was doing in the first place.
Don't misread me here, being detailed is valuable at times but certainly not in all circumstances, especially when you need to keep things at a 30,000 foot level, where visionaries hang out. I'm not that guy. But it is of great value for the problems I resolve for business owners.
So when you are documenting important things like a company vision, values/operating principles, process workflow and operating procedures, it is critical to have a person who can ensure the details are captured and documented clearly and accurately. Why? Because other people are going to be executing them. So, they had better be clear, precise and detailed. Otherwise, the result will be constant questions, fixing mistakes, repeating and retraining over and over.
Other Experience
My 38 years in business have been primarily spent working with small business owners in the financial planning and investment industry. In 2012, I had the opportunity to help run a small company, where I spent 8 years building out its processes and procedures—a role in which I thrived.
This experience motivated me to pursue formal training and education, with the encouragement of a supportive business owner and client, who played a significant role in inspiring me to launch my own company to offer these services to other businesses.
I understand the significant difference between a company that drains its owner and team and one that is streamlined and efficient. When you have a remarkably streamlined company, the entire team experiences increased energy, focus, and productivity, allowing the owner to focus on strategic growth and innovation.
What I'm describing here is not rocket science, but it does require certain skills and a comprehensive solution where you end up with a company that runs smoothly and with a team that is equipped and empowered to manage the operation so you can focus on the things you are best at in your role as the owner.
